My name is Bahia Lagardien. I am a qualified medical doctor and the primary caregiver to my seven children. I work as a GP locum on an ad hoc basis. In my personal capacity, I often find myself being that “mom role model” or supporter to friends and family navigating the demands of motherhood.
Through my journey in medicine and personal experience, I have realised the vital, yet often underplayed, role that mothers play within the home and community. As a Muslim mother, I am part of a network of sisters who, through monthly Sunday Sisters Circles and weekly prayer gatherings, find connection and strength to fulfil the ever-demanding role that motherhood places on them. I am passionate about motherhood, and being a Mamandla fellow will help elevate the level of support I can provide for mothers in all stages of life.
