I am Mmakgomo Tshetlo. I was born and raised in the city of Ekurhuleni, Gauteng.
I have a diploma from Boston Media House where I majored in radio production. After my tenure in radio, I switched careers and became a coach and trainer with Grow Grow Flourish. It is here that I was placed in an environment and industry that cares and puts mothers and children at the forefront and it felt like the perfect alignment. As a mom to a child living with cerebral palsy, I felt inspired to start a support group for women raising children with special needs and called it special moms. I want them to be heard and seen and to validate their mothering experience.
My goal is to provide mental health resources for these special moms as many of them are unable to afford or have access to this kind of aid. I am thrilled and proud to be a Mamandla Fellow. It is an honour and a privilege to be given this life-changing opportunity to be of service to a cause so close to my heart.
I am passionate about motherhood, and being a Mamandla fellow will help elevate the level of support I can provide for mothers in all stages of life.
