I am a mother, obstetric violence survivor, and social justice activist.
For the past 5 years I have been advocating for obstetric violence survivors and children, for their better care, post support if necessary.
I would like to think I have contributed to raising awareness on the topic of obstetric violence: I have done about 40 interviews including international production such as BBC, Russian TV, and French TV. I have shot a documentary on the awareness of the topic. I have contributed to holding the South African government accountable for this inhuman practice, from the National DoH to Section 19 organizations such as the Commission for Gender Equity and the office of the Public Protector. The previous Public Protector made a finding in one of the important aspects of my case,, that is that medical records that are destroyed to get rid of the evidence as that is a tactic government uses to ensure it is not held accountable. This is the systemic cover-up. This needs to be followed up on.
