Gaopalelwe Phalaetsile is a journalist, mom blogger and content creator @mommy_feminist, who writes about conscious and gentle parenting. Gao has also run online groups for moms and women to share their journey in a judgement free space. She is the founder and director of Abortion Support South Africa, an information hub for safe terminations of pregnancy. She is currently working at Oxfam South Africa as a Digital Campaigns Manager.

Being a Mamandla fellow has really opened me up to the reality that motherhood is not just a private journey but a very social and political one. Mothers don’t need charity, we need policies and initiatives that empower us and nothing can be done for us without us.
