Mapula Gethe

I am Mapula Gethe, a wife and mother to two boys, aged 4 and 2. Originally from Alexandra township, my family later relocated to Limpopo, where I spent most of my life.

Currently, I am pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Politics in the faculty of humanities. My passion lies in understanding how institutions shape our daily lives, particularly for pregnant women and mothers.

As a Mamandla fellow, this opportunity holds deep significance for me. It symbolizes my dedication to being a catalyst for positive change and creating a nurturing environment for both mothers and children. I strongly believe in the principle of “motho ke motho ka batho,” which emphasizes the interconnectedness of humanity. The journey of motherhood requires the support and involvement of the community to navigate its highs and lows, and Mamandla provides that space for each fellow to thrive.
