I’m Cindy Mkhize and I am a 29-year-old mother of one beautiful energetic daughter from Port Shepstone, KZN. I am a regional manager in corporate social responsibility for a construction company.
I recently started a support group for females around the Durban North/Umhlanga area who go through issues at home, but do not know who to talk to without being judged. I’m still looking forward to Mother’s Day Connect; this has changed so many mothers’ lives in my hometown, which is a deep rural area. I am also part of a healthy lifestyle group with moms at my gym. Recently, I was a panellist for Women in the Built Environment in South Africa.
Being a Mamandla fellow taught me the importance of mental health and the importance of practicing self-care as a mother and knowing that you are not alone. I gained exposure to issues that we need to tackle as females in South Africa when it comes to livelihoods, cost, grants, etcetera.
