Dithoriso, or ‘Dee’ as she’s affectionately known, is a community activist and social entrepreneur who understands the importance of harnessing and using the power of communities for change. As such, she owns and runs her own Flourish franchise, offering mothers in her community low-cost ante- and postnatal support and information. In her year as a fellow, Dee started an organisation: Bulmuko be Afrika, named after her daughter, Bulumko. Through this work, she wants to expand her mothers’ groups and have them become “a platform for mothers to share their experiences and challenges of motherhood, a safe space for mothers to learn from each other and draw strength from one another, and will empower mothers to know that they hold the Power”.
