My name is Michaela Andrews. I’m 22years old, I’m originally from Cape Town but living in Port Elizabeth at the moment. My son Elijah is 16months old and is the light of my life.
What’s your favourite thing about being a mom?
My favourite thing about being a mom is the warm hugs and sloppy wet kisses I receive on a daily basis. The way that my son can make me completely melt with just saying mama and giving me a tight, warm hug.
What is one misconception people have about young moms?
A lot of people have this misconception that every young mom, does not care and look after their child and rather leaves all the raising of their child to their parents. I’m proud to say that I love and care for my child alone and he has always been my responsibility.
Tell us how society could support young parents better?
Society could stop judging young parents and just having your community’s support will do a world of a difference. Our children are the future and it’s our responsibility to raise them well.
What is your dream for your child/ children?
My dream for my son is that he grows up to be an amazing young man with morals and good values. That he completes his degree in whatever his passion is and for when he’s older to have a wonderful family life and for him to love his children like I love him.
