Memory Linzie Simwaka

My name is Memory Linzie Simwaka, a wife, mother, business administrator, strong supporter of mothers and an activist for different movements related to motherhood. I am passionate to see pregnant women in South Africa get supported with maternity support grant, I believe that pregnancy is expensive and that it is even much more difficult for low income expectant mothers to go through pregnancy with starvation and lack whilst preparing for a new life. A proper diet for the mother and the unborn baby is crucial to ensure that the baby gets all nutrients necessary for brain and body development.

I am also deeply moved with the issue of obstetric violence in many hospitals in South Africa. It is inhuman to mistreat a pregnant woman during childbirth. I believe that all pregnant women should be treated with care, kindness and dignity during this time and that systems have to be put in place to hold accountable all medical personnel involved in such acts. I also believe that pregnant women should be made aware of their rights and should have platforms to complain if mistreated. I believe that South Africa can be a better place if we can all work together to put an end to motherhood related atrocities in the country.
